Well Child Check-up Schedule
Dr. McAuliffe's Well Visit Summary1. The Neonatologist or hospital pediatrician will see your baby in the hospital each day that you are there.
2. I will see your baby in the office the day after you leave the hospital.
3. If your baby is breast-fed, I will see him/her at 1 and 2 week(s) of age.
4. If your baby is bottle-fed, gaining well, and you do not have questions or worries, I will see him/her again at 2 weeks of age.
5. Thereafter, I will see your baby at 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 15 months, 18 months, 24 months, 30 months, 36 months, and then once every year until age 21.
Your ill child will be seen THE SAME DAY that you call, ANYTIME you have questions or concerns - the above schedule is for WELL visits. We can be reached at (727) 345-2212.

First Week of Life:
You should schedule your baby's first appointment for the day after you will be discharged from the hospital. Please call our office to schedule a convenient time.
At this visit, Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will weigh your baby and measure his/her length and head circumference, review your baby's prenatal and birth history, discuss feeding, sleeping, peeing/pooping and development, perform a complete physical examination, and answer any questions you may have (don't be afraid to bring a list!). If your baby did not have/pass a newborn hearing screen in the hospital, this test will be done in the office.

2 Weeks of Life:

1 Month of Age:
Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will weigh and measure your baby, discuss growth and development, perform a complete physical examination and answer any questions you may have.
In addition, Dr. McAuliffe will likely have results of your baby's newborn metabolic screen at this visit. This test was done twice while your baby was in the nursery and rules out serious, but rare, metabolic disorders (like thyroid disease, cystic fibrosis, PKU, and sickle cell anemia).

2 Months of Age:
Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will weigh and measure your baby, discuss growth and development, perform a complete physical examination and answer any questions you may have.
In addition, your baby will receive his/her first set of childhood vaccines. These will include the DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Acellular Pertussis) #1 (of 5), IPV (Inactivated Polio Virus) #1 (of 4), HIB (Haemophilus Influenza type B which causes meningitis) #1 (of 3 or 4), Hepatitis B #1 (of 3), Prevnar (against Pneumococcus which causes meningitis) #1 (of 4) injections. Your baby will also receive the oral Rotavirus vaccine #1 (of 2 or 3).
Dr. McAuliffe will discuss vaccine safety and possible reactions and instruct you how, when, and in what amount to give Infant's Tylenol for fever or fussiness.

4 Months of Age:

In addition, your baby will receive his/her DTaP #2 (of 5), IPV #2 (of 4), HIB #2 (of 3 or 4), Hepatitis B #2 (of 3), Prevnar #2 (of 4), and Rotavirus #2 (of 2 or 3). Dr. McAuliffe will discuss vaccine safety and possible reactions and instruct you how, when, and in what amount to give Infant's Tylenol for fever or fussiness.

6 Months of Age:

In addition, your baby will receive his/her DTaP #3 (of 5), IPV #3 (of 4), Hepatitis B #3 (of 3), Prevnar #3 (of 4), and Hib #3 (of 3 or 4) and Rotavirus #3 (if needed). The flu vaccine will also be given annually during well visits during the months of September through March. Dr. McAuliffe will discuss vaccine safety and possible reactions and instruct you how, when, and in what amount to give Infant's Tylenol or Infant's Advil/Motrin for fever or fussiness.

9 Months of Age:
Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will weigh and measure your baby, discuss growth and development using the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended Ages and Stages Questionnaire, perform a complete physical examination and answer any questions you may have. The flu vaccine will also be given annually during well visits during the months of September through March. The Academy of Pediatrics is considering that babies receive their first meningococcal vaccine at this age. Dr. McAuliffe will discuss shot safety and possible reactions and instruct you how, when, and in what amount to give Infant's Tylenol or Infant's Advil/Motrin for fever or fussiness. In addition, your baby will have a finger-stick blood test (complete blood count) to screen for anemia, and a PPD skin test to screen for exposure to tuberculosis. Your child will also be tested for lead exposure at this visit.

12 Months of Age:
Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will weigh and measure your baby, discuss growth and development using the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended Ages and Stages Questionnaire, perform a complete physical examination and answer any questions you may have. In addition, your baby will receive his/her Varivax (Chickenpox) #1 (of 2), Prevnar #4 (of 4), and Hepatitis A (to protect against food borne illness) #1 (of 2). The flu vaccine will also be given annually during well visits during the months of September through March. Dr. McAuliffe will discuss vaccine safety and possible reactions and instruct you how, when, and in what amount to give Infant's Tylenol or Infant's Advil/Motrin for fever or fussiness.

15 Months of Age:
Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will weigh and measure your baby, discuss growth and development using the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended Ages and Stages Questionnaire, perform a complete physical examination and answer any questions you may have.
In addition, your baby will receive his/her MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) #1 (of 2) and HIB #3 or 4 (of 3 or 4). FYI: There is no medical evidence of any association between the administration of the MMR vaccine and the development of autism. Autism is a genetically linked disorder whose signs of developmental delay typically appear before 15 months of age. The flu vaccine will also be given annually during well visits during the months of September through March.

18 Months of Age:

In addition, your baby will receive his/her DTaP #4 (of 5) and Hepatitis A #2 (of 2). The flu vaccine will also be given annually during well visits during the months of September through March.
Dr. McAuliffe will discuss vaccine safety and possible reactions and instruct you how, when, and in what amount to give Infant's Tylenol or Infant's Advil/Motrin for fever or fussiness.
You will also be asked to complete an Ages and Stages Questionnaire and an MCHAT (Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers) questionnaire to assist Dr. Lori in evaluating your child's development. 24 Months of Age:
Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will weigh and measure your child, discuss growth and development using the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended Ages and Stages Questionnaire, perform a complete physical examination and answer any questions you may have. Your child's height to weight percentage will be discussed to be sure it is in the healthy/non-overweight range.
In addition, your baby will have a finger-stick blood test (complete blood count) to screen for anemia and lead exposure, and a PPD skin test to screen for exposure to tuberculosis. Your child will also be tested for lead exposure at this visit. Further, the Academy of Pediatrics has recently recommended that a meningococcal booster be considered at this age.
Dr. McAuliffe will discuss vaccine safety and possible reactions and instruct you how, when, and in what amount to give Infant's Tylenol or Infant's Advil/Motrin for fever or fussiness.
You will also be asked to complete an Ages and Stages Questionnaire and an MCHAT (Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers) questionnaire to assist Dr. Lori in evaluating your child's development. 30 Months of Age:
The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends that toddlers have a visit between their 2nd and 3rd birthday to reassess their growth and development with particular attention to speech and behavior and diet.
Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will weigh and measure your baby, discuss growth and development, perform a complete physical examination, and answer any questions you may have.
There are no standard tests at this visit, but we will use this opportunity to offer any vaccines which may have been delayed. The flu vaccine will also be given annually during well visits during the months of September through March.
Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will discuss vaccine safety and possible reactions and instruct you how, when, and in what amount to give Infant's Tylenol or Infant's Advil/Motrin for fever or fussiness. Dr. Lori may recommend the Pneumovax vaccine for your child.
You will also be asked to complete an Ages and Stages Questionnaire to assist Dr. Lori in evaluating your child's development.

3 Years of Age:
Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will weigh and measure your child and record your child's blood pressure, discuss growth and development using the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended Ages and Stages Questionnaire, perform a complete physical examination and answer any questions you may have. Your child's Body Mass Index (BMI) will be calculated to be sure it is in the healthy/non-overweight range. If your child is able, a routine urinalysis is recommended as are vision and hearing screenings.
The flu vaccine will also be given annually during well visits during the months of September through March.

4 Years of Age:

5 Years of Age:

Your child's Body Mass Index (BMI) will be calculated to be sure it is in the healthy/non-overweight range. A routine urinalysis is also recommended. In addition, your child will receive his/her DTaP #5 (of 5) and IPV #4 (of 4). The flu vaccine will also be given annually during well visits during the months of September through March.
Other tests at this visit include screening for elevated cholesterol levels and a complete blood count.

6 to 11 Years of Age:
It is a good idea for your child to have an annual physical examination to ensure good health and sports participation. The Academy of Pediatrics recommends an annual well physicals in children/young adults in this age group. An annual urinalysis is recommended to rule out infection and diabetes as are annual vision and hearing screenings. Well physicals are an excellent opportunity to discuss any school or behavior problems you may be having as well as to initiate discussions regarding pubertal development.
We will take this opportunity to update any needed immunizations. The flu vaccine will also be given annually during well visits during the months of September through March.

12 Years of Age:
Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will weigh and measure your child and record your child's blood pressure, discuss growth and development, screen for vision or hearing problems, and perform a complete physical examination and answer any questions you may have. A routine urinalysis is also recommended to rule out infection and diabetes.
In addition, your child will receive his/her Tdap (tetanus and pertussis booster; to be repeated every 8 years) and the Meningococcal vaccine (against a deadly meningitis caused by Neisseria).

13-15 Years of Age:
The flu vaccine will also be given annually during well visits during the months of September through March. Other tests at this visit include screening for elevated cholesterol levels and a complete blood count.
It is recommended that both girls and boys begin their HPV (human papilloma vaccine) series (a 3 dose series). This vaccine protects our girls against cervical cancer and our boys against genital warts and (while rare) penile cancer. As boys are the vector of this virus to girls, it is important to immunize them as well. These are the current recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

16 to 21 Years of Age*:
Dr. McAuliffe and her staff will weigh and measure your child and record your child's blood pressure, discuss growth and development, screen for vision or hearing problems, and perform a complete physical examination and answer any questions you may have. A routine urinalysis is also recommended to rule out infection and diabetes.
In addition, your child will receive his/her Tdap and Meningococcal meningitis booster at age 18-20 years (before college entry). The flu vaccine will also be given annually during well visits during the months of September through March. It is recommended that all girls have an annual CBC once they begin their periods.
* Many pediatricians stop seeing patients once they reach 18 years of age, Dr. McAuliffe continues to provide them both well and sick care until the age of 21 years. This is to foster the doctor patient relationship that has already been established, especially in light of potential risk taking behaviors that begin during these formative years.
